Why we choose Ultraformer MPT: a comparison with Ultherapy PRIME
At London Finsbury Clinic, Ultraformer MPT is an important part of our approach to non-surgical skin tightening. Our preference reflects the way we like to work: individual treatment mapping, attention to comfort and a plan that respects facial shape. If you are comparing it with Ultherapy PRIME, the most useful question is which approach suits your skin and priorities.
We have worked with Korean aesthetic technology over time and value the flexibility of the CLASSYS platform. That experience informs our preference; it does not establish that one device gives better results for every patient.
What is the difference between the two devices?
Both use focused ultrasound, but their platforms and treatment planning features differ. Ultherapy PRIME includes real-time ultrasound visualisation, allowing the practitioner to view tissue and check treatment depth and coupling. Ultraformer MPT uses a range of cartridges and delivery modes to adapt an ultrasound plan. It does not provide the same live tissue imaging feature.
MPT means Micro-Pulsed Technology. A setting or mode is one part of a treatment: anatomical assessment, depth selection and distribution remain essential. More shots or a higher setting do not automatically mean a better result.
Why does comfort matter to us?
We aim for a tolerable appointment with frequent comfort checks, rather than asking someone to endure increasing pain. Our preference for Ultraformer MPT includes the ability to adapt the treatment to the person and the area. Sensations can still include heat, tingling or brief discomfort, especially near bony areas. It should not be described as guaranteed pain-free.
Ultherapy’s UK patient information acknowledges discomfort during energy delivery and possible tenderness for up to a couple of weeks. Experiences vary. This does not mean that everyone finds Ultherapy intolerable, or that Ultraformer cannot cause tenderness afterwards. Tell your practitioner about previous painful treatments and ask how the plan will be adjusted if you are uncomfortable.
What about unwanted facial fat reduction?
A person wanting firmer skin may want to preserve the fullness of the cheeks. We discuss that distinction before choosing treatment zones. Neither a device name nor a low pain score guarantees protection from unwanted volume change. Depth, energy, passes and the tissue being treated matter.
We do not treat facial fat reduction as a universal benefit. A thinner face, a fuller lower face and loose neck skin can require different decisions. Where a concern is primarily volume loss, another approach, or no energy treatment, may be more appropriate.
Can you return to normal activities?
Many people plan non-surgical ultrasound treatment around ordinary daily life, but recovery is individual. Redness, swelling, bruising or tenderness may occur, and uncommon complications must be discussed before consent. We explain aftercare and how to contact the clinic rather than promising that there will be no pain afterwards.
Which option should you choose?
Bring your priorities to consultation: comfort, facial definition, skin firmness, the areas you want to protect and the time you have before an event. We explain why Ultraformer MPT may fit your plan, while recognising the distinctive imaging capability of Ultherapy PRIME. Results develop over time and vary; neither treatment replaces a surgical assessment when substantial lifting is required.
