The internal anal sphincter helps control the anal opening. Persistently high tension can contribute to reduced blood flow around a fissure. A selected muscle-relaxing injection can temporarily reduce tension to support healing.
This approach is different from surgically cutting the sphincter. It is one part of a wider care pathway, which can include stool-softening measures, topical treatment or colorectal review.
Botulinum toxin use for anal fissures is outside the manufacturer’s licensed indication, as described in NHS patient guidance. Your doctor explains the evidence, actual preparation and alternatives; no fixed brand or dose is assumed here.
