Radiesse and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are both injectable treatments, but they work in very different ways. Hyaluronic acid mainly provides hydration and immediate volume. Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) collagen stimulator designed to provide structural support while encouraging the skin to produce more of its own collagen and elastin.
At London Finsbury Clinic, our approach is skin-first and natural. We do not automatically add hyaluronic acid volume when the real concern is reduced firmness, laxity or loss of tissue support.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a calcium-based collagen stimulator containing calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a smooth carrier gel. It can provide an immediate supportive effect, while the CaHA particles act as a scaffold that supports gradual collagen and elastin production.
Depending on the treatment goal, Radiesse can be used in a more concentrated form for structure and contour, or diluted and hyperdiluted for wider skin-quality treatment. Diluted Radiesse is commonly selected when the priority is firmness, elasticity, crepey skin and collagen stimulation rather than adding obvious volume.
What is hyaluronic acid dermal filler?
Hyaluronic acid is a water-attracting gel used to replace volume, shape specific features and hydrate tissue. Different formulations can be selected for areas such as the lips, chin or other carefully assessed facial areas.
One advantage of hyaluronic acid is that it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if clinically necessary. However, HA gel may not be the best answer for every patient. Repeated or excessive treatment can sometimes contribute to persistent puffiness, water retention, heaviness, an overfilled appearance or product displacement.

Does Radiesse migrate?
Radiesse does not behave like a soft hyaluronic acid gel and does not attract water in the same way. When correctly selected and placed by an experienced medical practitioner, it is designed to remain integrated within the treated tissue while supporting collagen remodelling.
We do not describe any injectable as completely risk-free. Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising can occur, and uncommon complications are possible with any injection. Careful patient selection, anatomical knowledge, correct depth and conservative placement are therefore essential.
How long does Radiesse last?
Patients often choose Radiesse because its benefits develop beyond the initial supportive effect. Collagen remodelling continues gradually, and published manufacturer information reports that results have been shown to last up to two years. Longevity varies according to the treatment area, product amount, dilution, metabolism and individual tissue response.
Which treatment looks more natural?
Both treatments can look natural when used appropriately. Hyaluronic acid may be preferable when precise shaping, softness or reversibility is the main priority. Radiesse is often our preferred option when the goal is firmer skin, better tissue quality, subtle lifting and gradual rejuvenation without creating an overfilled appearance.
Radiesse is not suitable for every facial area. At London Finsbury Clinic, we do not use it in the lips or directly beneath the eyes. Treatment areas and technique are selected only after a doctor-led assessment.
