EXPERT ADVICE · LONDON FINSBURY CLINIC
Why might skin boosters come before PicoSure Pro?
When your goal is brighter, healthier-looking skin, the best first step is not always another laser session. At London Finsbury Clinic in King’s Cross, we consider pigmentation, hydration, texture and skin-barrier condition together. Sometimes we recommend preparing the skin before PicoSure Pro laser treatment; sometimes a different treatment better matches your goals.
Laser and skin boosters have different roles
PicoSure Pro uses picosecond laser pulses to target selected pigmentation and, with an appropriate lens, address certain skin-texture concerns. Skin boosters are injectable treatments considered for goals such as hydration and skin quality. They are not interchangeable ways of treating every dark mark.
At consultation, we distinguish unwanted pigment from dehydration, texture changes, irritation or a combination. That helps us explain what each option is intended to improve.
Why we review your skin barrier first
Your skin barrier helps maintain moisture and protects the skin surface. If your skin feels persistently tight, stings with products or has become unsettled after procedures, adding more treatment immediately may not be helpful. Irritation can also contribute to dark marks in susceptible skin.
We review your cleanser, moisturiser, sun protection and active ingredients, as well as previous lasers, peels and injectable treatments. Overlapping procedures or frequent exfoliation may mean the skin needs a simpler routine and more time before another procedure.
Where Juvelook and Rejuran may fit
Juvelook may be discussed for selected texture and skin-quality goals. Rejuran is a polynucleotide treatment that may be considered for skin-quality and hydration goals. Your doctor assesses whether either is useful, rather than recommending injections simply because laser is being postponed.
Neither is a universal replacement for pigmentation treatment. If the main concern is melasma or sun-related spots, the plan still needs to address the cause and include appropriate sun protection and skin care. A combination is recommended only when each part has a clear purpose.
Melasma: sometimes a gentler starting point
Heat and irritation can trigger melasma in some people. Where the skin is sensitive or the barrier is compromised, your doctor may prioritise skin care and a suitable topical plan before considering laser. A carefully selected skin peel may also have a role after assessment; it is not automatically the first step for irritated skin.
We aim to support the best achievable improvement for your skin, with a considered choice of treatment and timing. Choosing a different route can be an important part of caring for the result.
A practical example of a personalised plan
If someone has pigmentation alongside dryness and irritation after using several active products, we first review the routine and assess the pigment. We may recommend barrier support and allow the skin to settle, then reassess whether laser, a peel or skin-quality treatment has a useful role. This is an illustration of our approach, not a fixed protocol for everyone.
Complimentary skin care and follow-up
We include complimentary skin care with our treatments, selected for your plan, and explain how to use it alongside your usual routine. Your doctor advises on treatment spacing, preparation and follow-up so you understand the next step.
Frequently asked questions
Can PicoSure Pro and a skin booster be combined?
They may form part of a staged plan when they address different goals. Your doctor recommends appropriate spacing; combination treatment does not automatically mean the same appointment.
Do skin boosters remove melasma?
We discuss them for associated skin-quality goals, rather than promising they will clear melasma. Pigmentation care is planned around the diagnosis and your skin’s needs.
Can I discuss all the options without committing?
Yes. Your doctor explains the relevant options, expected benefits and costs at a free consultation, with no pressure to proceed.
