Why HIFU treatment depth matters: lifting that respects your facial anatomy

The best HIFU plan is not simply the deepest setting or the highest shot count. A more defined jawline and firmer-looking skin begin with understanding the tissue being treated. At London Finsbury Clinic, we use genuine Korean Ultraformer MPT to build an individual plan around skin laxity, facial shape and the areas where you want to preserve fullness.

What does a cartridge depth mean?

A cartridge is designed to focus ultrasound energy at a specified nominal depth. Ultraformer MPT has facial, Booster and body cartridges. These are treatment tools, not a universal map of where every person’s skin, fat or supporting structures sit. The tissue beneath a thin temple is different from the tissue beneath a fuller lower face.

Why can two people need different treatment plans?

Skin thickness, facial fullness, age, previous treatment and the area being treated all influence a plan. A person who wants a sharper lower face may have localised fullness, loose skin or both. A person with a slender face may want firmness while protecting existing volume. The same settings should not be applied automatically to both.

At consultation we examine the concern directly, review previous fillers, threads or energy treatments and discuss the outcome you want. Photographs help us document your starting point, but they do not replace examination. The doctor explains the areas selected and why.

Lifting and fat reduction are different goals

We do not approach every HIFU appointment as a fat-reduction treatment. For many faces, maintaining soft facial volume is part of looking refreshed. Where reduction of selected localised fullness is appropriate, it must be an intentional part of the plan. Unwanted volume change is a risk to discuss, not a benefit to promise everybody.

Does more energy mean a better result?

No. Appropriate energy delivery, contact, spacing and tissue selection matter. Repeating energy in the same place or choosing an unsuitable depth can increase risk without producing the result you want. Shot counts are useful for explaining coverage and price, but a number alone cannot establish treatment quality or predict the amount of lift.

Why do we choose Ultraformer MPT?

Its range of cartridges and delivery modes gives us options for personal planning. Our experience with the Ultraformer platforms and continuing CLASSYS training in Korea support that approach. We value the ability to discuss the face, neck and selected body concerns separately, with clear treatment coverage rather than a one-size-fits-all session.

The platform does not provide live ultrasound visualisation like Ultherapy. We explain that distinction when comparing devices. Whichever system is selected, the practitioner must understand the anatomy, product instructions and the limits of what the treatment can achieve.

What about the under-eye area?

Thin periocular skin needs a separate assessment and an appropriate treatment protocol. The eye area should never be treated as an extension of a general face session without specific planning. Some concerns may be better addressed with skin-quality treatment; significant bags or laxity may need another opinion. Your doctor discusses suitability and eye protection where relevant.

What should you ask before booking?

  • Which device and treatment areas are included?
  • Is the goal tightening, contour refinement or both?
  • How will existing facial volume and previous treatment be considered?
  • What sensations, recovery and complications should I understand?
  • When will we review the result?

Our free consultation brings these questions together. Suitable comfort support, aftercare and complimentary skincare advice help you plan beyond the treatment day. We aim for gradual, natural-looking improvement with clear explanations at every stage.
