Understanding Sculptra® and your options

Get to know PLLA collagen stimulation

Sculptra is a Galderma product built around poly-L-lactic acid, abbreviated to PLLA. Its treatment approach focuses on collagen stimulation and gradual changes in tissue support. We explain the material, the proposed area and the expected progression in language that makes sense to you, then agree when to assess the treatment.

Facial balance guides the plan

Your doctor looks at where facial support is needed and how the different areas relate to one another. We discuss your priorities, tissue quality and the amount of change you would enjoy. Your individual plan explains the selected areas, product amount and appointment sequence. This allows you to understand the purpose of the course and the role of each review.

Continuing care through the collagen journey

Gradual treatment gives us the opportunity to review your response and listen to your experience along the way. We explain the home-care instructions for your exact appointment, including any product-specific treatment-area care your doctor recommends. We keep in touch after the visit, welcome your feedback and use the review to discuss the next stage of your plan.

Understanding a gradual collagen-focused change

Collagen contributes to the skin’s structure, while elasticity and the distribution of facial support also influence its appearance. Sculptra’s manufacturer describes a PLLA-based regenerative biostimulator and its collagen-focused approach. At your consultation, we connect that background to the areas and goals in your own plan. A gradual approach makes the review interval useful: we assess the treated tissue, discuss what you have noticed and explain the next stage. Your home-care instructions and continuing feedback remain part of that journey.

Detailed product guide

Sculptra: gradual PLLA collagen stimulation

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid formulation. The manufacturer describes its particles as supporting a tissue response that helps stimulate collagen as the material is absorbed. The intended change develops gradually rather than being judged only from the fullness visible immediately after treatment.

Facial wrinkles and support

The manufacturer’s US information describes facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial and cheek concerns. Your doctor assesses skin quality and volume changes together and explains the product directions applicable to the treatment offered in London. A course and its total cost are discussed individually.

Planning a conservative result

Because the response develops over time, the consultation considers how much change is appropriate and when to reassess. Early swelling is not a reliable measure of the final result. We avoid promising a fixed amount of collagen or an identical duration for every patient.

Suitability and recovery

The manufacturer identifies swelling, bruising, tenderness and lumps among possible adverse effects, including delayed nodules. Medical history, active skin problems and any tendency to raised scars are discussed before treatment. The product has specific placement requirements; the manufacturer’s instructions exclude the lip vermilion and peri-orbital area.

A considered collagen plan

How Sculptra differs from an instant-volume treatment

The product and the tissue response

Sculptra is Galderma’s PLLA-SCA product. Its purpose is to stimulate a gradual tissue response. The fluid used to prepare the product can create early fullness, but that appearance should not be treated as the finished outcome. Your review plan allows time to assess the developing change before deciding whether more treatment is appropriate.

What should your consultation compare?

Facial volume loss, reduced firmness and surface dehydration can coexist, but they are different goals. A structural hyaluronic acid filler may suit a precise contour change; a hydration-focused treatment addresses another concern. The consultation explains where Sculptra fits and why it may be chosen instead of, or separately from, another option.

How long does a plan take?

A staged course and review may be discussed rather than judging success immediately after one appointment. The number of sessions and vials depends on the starting point and intended change. We explain the proposed course and total cost, and review your response rather than automatically adding product.

What should you know before deciding?

PLLA is not dissolved with hyaluronidase in the way an HA filler can be. Lumps, nodules and delayed reactions are part of the risk discussion, alongside bruising, swelling and injection-related complications. Follow the written product-specific aftercare given by your doctor; instructions for another collagen stimulator should not be assumed to apply.

Bring your questions, treatment history and skincare routine. We listen carefully and make sure your priorities guide the discussion.

02

A detailed doctor assessment

Your doctor assesses the treatment area, skin and tissue, and reviews your medical history and earlier procedures. For facial treatment, we consider your proportions at rest and in movement. We explain the assessment in everyday language and discuss which approach fits your individual goals.

03

Your plan, explained before we begin

Your doctor explains the product preparation and placement so you know what each stage of the appointment involves.

05

Doctor-performed treatment

Your doctor administers the selected product using an area-specific technique. Placement and distribution follow your agreed plan, with attention to your anatomy and natural proportions. We keep communicating during treatment, check your comfort and explain progress through the planned areas.

06

A clear home-care and review plan

Before you leave, we go through your aftercare in detail and make sure you know how to care for the treated area. We explain your review plan, the expected progression and how to contact the clinic. You can ask for clarification on any part of the instructions.

Private messages after your visit

We use the contact method agreed with you to send a private message after treatment. We ask how you are feeling and getting on with your instructions, answer aftercare questions and help you understand the next stage of your plan. You are welcome to reply with questions and feedback.
